We offer tax preparation, tax planning and bookkeeping. Tax preparation starts with what happened this year. Tax planning asks what comes next. We help individuals and families with both: preparing federal and state returns, looking for the deductions and credits you qualify for, and discussing choices that could affect next year’s taxes or a much larger financial decision.
Protecting the money you have worked to save
For many middle-class families, a home, retirement account, or small business represents years of work. An unexpected tax bill can take a meaningful share of those savings. You should have a chance to understand the tax consequences before you commit to a sale, withdrawal, or other major change.
That is why we encourage you to bring us into the conversation early. Once a transaction is complete, some options may be gone. We look at the facts, explain the choices available under the law, and help you weigh the tax cost alongside your family’s needs.
Decisions worth talking through before they happen
- Selling a second home or rental property. The rules for a primary residence do not automatically apply to a vacation home. Purchase records, improvements, rental history, and the timing and structure of a sale can matter. We can review the likely tax consequences before you sign, including whether any particular exclusion or deferral is actually available.
- Taking money from retirement savings. A withdrawal can create taxable income and, in some cases, an additional early-distribution tax. Before using retirement funds for a large expense, we can compare the tax effects and review any applicable exceptions.
- Retiring or converting an IRA to a Roth. When income changes, the timing of withdrawals or conversions deserves a closer look. We can help you understand how a proposed move fits into your overall tax picture.
- Starting a side business or becoming self-employed. Good records, deductible expenses, and a plan for tax payments can prevent a surprise after the money has already been spent.
- A new job, a move, marriage, divorce, or a growing family. These changes can affect withholding, filing status, credits, and state filing requirements. We can check what needs attention while there is still time to adjust.
- Paying for college. Tax returns and financial-aid applications use related information, but their rules differ. We can help you understand the tax side of education expenses and how it connects to your family’s college plan.
You do not need to know which tax rule applies before contacting us. Tell us what you are considering, and we will start there.
Preparation with attention to the details
We review the documents you provide, ask about changes since your last return, and follow up on information that needs clarification. Our aim is to report your return accurately, claim the deductions and credits you qualify for, and make sure you understand the result.
If preparation reveals something that deserves planning, we talk about it. That might mean adjusting withholding, reviewing estimated payments, or arranging time to discuss a decision that is coming later in the year. You should leave with a clearer idea of what to do next.
A simple process, with or without a meeting
We have an active secure portal for collecting and sharing documents. You can work with us entirely online: upload your records, answer any follow-up questions, and we take care of preparing your return. An appointment is not required for every return.
If you cannot use the portal, call us and we will arrange another way to get your documents to us.
For clients who want to meet, Zoom appointments give us time to review the return and discuss questions together. Once the return is complete, you review and sign the e-file authorization before we file.
Returning clients can use their existing portal access or book an appointment. If you are new to the practice, start with our new-client information. The document checklist can help you gather what we will need.
Let’s look ahead together
You have worked hard for your money. Our job is to help you understand the tax rules, use the opportunities available to you, and avoid preventable surprises. If a significant financial decision is approaching, tell us about it before it happens.
